IRPMZ presents its Working Report to the UNESCO World Heritage Committee
During the 46th Session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, held in New Delhi, India, from July 21 to 31, 2024, the Regional World Heritage Institute of Zacatecas (IRPMZ), a Category 2 Centre under the auspices of UNESCO, presented its 2023-2024 activity report.
This is the first time that Category 2 Centres related to World Heritage are invited to officially present an activity report to the Committee, the highest authority of the UNESCO Convention for the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage. The request was included in item 6B of the session's agenda.

During this exercise, which took place on July 23 at the Bharat Mandapam Convention Center, Carlos Augusto Torres Pérez, Director General of the IRPMZ, noted that the Institute's work plans were designed based on a series of consultations with member countries in the Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean subregion, as well as recommendations from the UNESCO World Heritage Center and the International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM).
The presentation highlighted the Institute's main collaborations, including actions related to sustainable heritage management, risk management, the use of technologies and digital resources applied to heritage, and capacity building for impact assessment in World Heritage contexts. The Director of the IRPMZ emphasized that the reported activities were conceived and carried out in line with UNESCO's Action Plan for World Heritage in Latin America and the Caribbean (2023-2029).

Torres Pérez also noted that the positive results were possible thanks to the support of the IRPMZ Board of Directors, the Government of Mexico, and the Government of the State of Zacatecas, as well as the backing of key partners such as the National Institute of Anthropology and History of Mexico, the Lucio Costa Center of Brazil, and the International Center for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM).
Finally, with the support of the Mexican Delegation, Torres Pérez reported that in 2025, the IRPMZ, Mexico, and the City of Zacatecas will host the 9th Annual Coordination Meeting of Category 2 Centers related to World Heritage, whose central theme will be Capacity Building as a key activity to promote the implementation of the 1972 Convention.
