IRPMZ participates in the International Colloquium Camino Real de Tierra Adentro, Cultural Itineraries-UNESCO (2024 edition)

Within the framework of the International Colloquium Camino Real de Tierra Adentro, Cultural Itineraries-UNESCO (2024 edition), which took place from August 21 to 25 in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico and El Paso, Texas, and as part of its subregional activities, the IRPMZ participated in the Working Group "UNESCO Vision and Cultural Itineraries."

Also participating in the panel were Javier Edwards Ibarra (Panama), who shared an overview of the routes and information related to the structure and status of the UNESCO dossier for the Trans-Isthmus Route of Panama; Juan Luis Isaza Londoño (Colombia), who shared his experience as an evaluator of the extension of the serial property "The First Monasteries of the 16th Century on the Slopes of Popocatépetl", as well as his knowledge of the Qhapaq Ñan Andean road system, shared by six countries in the southern cone of America; and Michael Romero Tylor (USA), who spoke about the components and vicissitudes of the Camino Real de Tierra Adentro (Royal Road of the Interior) in the neighboring country to the north.

During the workshops, participants, including representatives from Mexico's National Institute of Anthropology and History, the National Park Service, World Heritage USA, and ICOMOS USA, explored potential opportunities, avenues for cooperation, and opportunities to advance the initiative to transform the Camino Real de Tierra Adentro into a binational destination, adding sections of the road located in the United States of America to the portion located in Mexico, which is already on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
