Zacatecas, host of the 8th Annual Coordination Meeting of UNESCO Category 2 Centers in March 2020
Within the framework of the 43rd Session of the World Heritage Committee, which is taking place in Baku, Republic of Azerbaijan, on June 5, the side event “Discover the work of UNESCO Category 2 Centres in the field of World Heritage” was held, organized by the Arab Regional Centre for World Heritage. At this meeting, opened by Ms. Jyoti Hosagrahar, Deputy Director of the World Heritage Centre, Category 2 Centres and Institutes (CC2) presented the characteristics and results of their work in their regions to achieve the effective implementation of the 1972 Convention Concerning the Conservation of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage.
Dr. Shadia Touqan, Director of the Arab Regional Centre for World Heritage, which hosted the 7th Annual CC2 Coordination Meeting in April of this year, shared the resolutions of this meeting held in Manama, the capital of the Kingdom of Bahrain. These resolutions highlighted the follow-up to the agreements reached at the 2018 meeting on Robben Island, South Africa; resource mobilization and communication strategy; collaboration among CC2; and the role of the Centres and Institutes in implementing recommendations such as those concerning Historic Town Landscapes.
