Public Hearing: World Heritage and Development. Durango

On June 19, 2019, the Public Hearing: World Heritage and Development was held in the city of Durango.

With the participation of Ms. Socorro Soto Alanís, Director General of the Durango State Institute of Culture; Architect Jorge Antonio Torres, Director of the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) in Durango; and Mr. Esbardo Carreño, Chronicler of Durango, Dr. José Francisco Román Gutiérrez, Director of the Regional World Heritage Institute in Zacatecas, Category 2 Center, under the auspices of UNESCO, presented the objectives, functions, and scope of the Institute in the Mexico, Central America, and Caribbean Region. Ms. Socorro Alanís emphasized the importance of the sites that comprise the Camino Real de Tierra Adentro (Royal Road of the Interior) in the state of Durango. Among the attendees were university students, researchers, teachers, and members of the community who expressed their concern for preserving each of the 13 sites that make up the CRTA (Regional Center of the Camino Real de Tierra Adentro).
