Public Hearing: World Heritage and Development. Zacatecas
Today, at the Casa de Cultura (House of Culture), a specialized Public Hearing on World Heritage and Development was held, organized by the Government of the State of Zacatecas, through the Regional Institute of World Heritage in Zacatecas, and the City Council of the Capital.
Alejandro Tello Cristerna, through Dr. José Francisco Román, conveyed the need to promote these types of hearings to strengthen the conservation of World Heritage and foster sustainable development in the municipalities where these properties exist. For his part, Ulises Mejía Haro, Mayor of Zacatecas, reaffirmed the importance of the city as a World Heritage Site and acknowledged the need to establish options for the livability of the Historic Center and create optimal conditions for tourists and residents to coexist. Attendees included residents of the Historic Center, teachers, researchers, professionals, and students from various universities in the state, as well as representatives from Colleges of Architects and Civil Associations.
During this outreach effort with citizens, requests were registered related to legal support, such as the issue of houses without wills, proposals for the use of abandoned properties in the Historic Center, and the valuable proposal from young people to suggest projects involving the use of new technologies in the conservation and management of heritage. They also emphasized the need for professional development in the tourism sector to support the conservation of World Heritage. The staff of the Regional Institute of World Heritage in Zacatecas, in coordination with the Municipal Government, was responsible for following up on these requests to ensure the immediate attention given to the petitions generated during the meeting.
