Public Hearing: World Heritage and Development. Guanajuato

As part of the commemoration of the XXXI Anniversary of the inscription of the Historic City of Guanajuato and its Adjacent Mines on the UNESCO World Heritage List, the Public Hearing: World Heritage and Development, "The Camino Real de Tierra Adentro in Guanajuato", convened by the H. City Council of Guanajuato and the Regional Institute of World Heritage in Zacatecas, was held on December 9.

Those present at the hearing included Mr. Alejandro Navarro Saldaña, Mayor of Guanajuato; Ms. María Teresa Matamoros, Secretary of Tourism of Guanajuato; Ms. María Carmen Vaca González, President of the Tourism Commission of the State Congress; Ms. María Adriana Carmona Obeso, General Director of the State Institute of Culture; Ms. Lilia Margarita Ronda Salas, Councilor of the Commission on Culture and International Relations, Education and Sports; Mr. David Jiménez Guillén, Director of the INAH Center in Guanajuato; Mr. Joel Omar Vázquez Herrera, National Coordinator of INAH Centers; Mr. Juan Elias Chávez, Deputy President of the Culture Commission; and Mr. Carlos Chávez Valdéz, Councilor of the Commission on Human Development, Ecological Territorial Planning and Development. Dr. José Francisco Román Gutiérrez, Director of the Regional Institute of World Heritage in Zacatecas (IRPMZ), as well as Dr. Eduardo Vidaurri Aréchiga, Chronicler of the City, who presided over the hearing.

The Public Hearing began with remarks by Dr. José Francisco Román, Director of the IRPMZ, who explained the Institute's objectives, functions, and scope, as well as the importance of Guanajuato within the Camino Real de Tierra Adentro Cultural Route. Various specialists and representatives of associations, along with public servants and researchers, expressed their concern and interest in promoting, disseminating, and implementing actions that foster the conservation of heritage in the state capital, in order to generate sustainable development in the city. Among other actions, the commitment to hold the Basic Concepts of the 1972 Convention workshop, coordinated by CONAET, the Guanajuato City Council, and the University of Guanajuato, from January 13 to 18, 2020, in a digital format, stands out.
