CONAET and the CONAET Network Implement an Online Workshop on World Heritage

CONAET AND THE CONAET NETWORK OFFER ONLINE

WORKSHOP ON WORLD HERITAGE

From January 13 to 17, 2020, the workshop "Basic Concepts of the 1972 Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage" was held. It was convened by the National Council for Tourism Education (CONAET), the accrediting body for Tourism and Gastronomy programs in higher education institutions, recognized by the Council for the Accreditation of Higher Education (COPAES), and the CONAET Network, with the collaboration of the Regional World Heritage Institute in Zacatecas, a Category 2 Center, under the auspices of UNESCO.

This workshop, which drew an average of forty participants from various universities and centers, is the first iteration of the one held in August 2019 in Mexico City, sponsored by the Regional Institute of World Heritage in Zacatecas and the UNESCO World Heritage Centre. Three representatives from CONAET participated in that workshop and committed to extending the workshop to faculty and researchers in accredited programs that are part of the CONAET Network.

Among the objectives of this workshop, aimed at specialists in various fields of tourism from both teaching and research perspectives, are:

  • To deepen understanding of the World Heritage Convention and its fundamental concepts;
  • To learn about the different regulatory and methodological frameworks for the application of the World Heritage Convention;
  • To understand the basic principles and aspects of World Heritage management; and
  • To analyze current proposals on World Heritage and their potential applications in the region in specific fields and lines of action.
