RWHIZ strengthens its cooperation agenda during the 48th session of the World Heritage Committee

As part of its international engagement agenda, the Regional World Heritage Institute in Zacatecas (RWHIZ) held various working sessions and bilateral meetings in Busan, Republic of Korea, with specialized bodies and representatives of States Parties. These meetings aimed to present the Institute's key projects, follow up on ongoing collaborations, and establish new lines of cooperation looking toward 2027. The meetings took place during the 48th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee.

A highlight among these encounters was the meeting with the Latin America and the Caribbean Unit of the UNESCO World Heritage Centre—led by Mauro Rosi and attended by Rochelle Roca—where progress on the Institute's main programs was shared and perspectives on priorities and working opportunities for the subregion were exchanged.

Additionally, dialogue continued with representatives from Panama’s Ministry of Culture, a country with which training and digital documentation activities were carried out in 2026. This exchange provided an opportunity to address potential collaboration regarding heritage documentation and conservation, applied technologies, and measures to prevent the illicit trafficking of cultural property.

RWHIZ also held a meeting with Nordicity, the consultancy firm responsible for evaluating ICCROM’s World Heritage Leadership Programme. During this session, the Institute shared its experience collaborating with the program and offered its perspective on the role of Category 2 Centres in capacity building, adapting international tools to regional contexts, and disseminating knowledge.

Concurrently, outreach efforts were conducted with representatives from the States Parties of Grenada, Jamaica, and the Dominican Republic; RWHIZ presented its programs to them and explored potential areas of collaboration for 2027. Additionally, a brief exchange took place with Jyoti Hosagrahar, Deputy Director of the UNESCO World Heritage Centre, during which the *Ecos del Patrimonio* (Echoes of Heritage) publishing initiative was introduced and a copy of the magazine was presented. As part of these engagements, RWHIZ also distributed recent publications, including the 2025 Report and the triennial report on the Training Program in Accessible Digital Technologies for World Heritage Documentation.

These meetings and outreach activities helped expand RWHIZ’s institutional ties, disseminate the results of its key programs, identify new opportunities for collaboration, and strengthen its role as a hub for cooperation serving Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean.
