RWHIZ's participation in the Managers' Meeting strengthens the technical dialogue on World Heritage in Guatemala

The Regional Institute of World Heritage in Zacatecas (RWHIZ) actively participated in the working groups and technical presentations, contributing to the exchange of experiences and the strengthening of capacities in the management of World Heritage, at the First National Meeting of World Heritage Managers in Guatemala, held on April 16 and 17, 2026 in Antigua Guatemala.

RWHIZ's participation included presentations by its representatives, Erika Rentería Ruiz, Raúl Eduardo Rodríguez Márquez, and Carlos Augusto Torres Pérez, the Institute's Director General, who addressed topics related to the implementation of the World Heritage Convention, capacity building as a strategic axis for its application, and the experiences and programs developed by the Institute in the region.

Also, as part of its contribution to the development of the meeting, RWHIZ facilitated the participation of international specialists such as Valerie Magar Meurs (Mexico), Claudia del Carmen Rosales Suárez (Colombia) and Ignacio Gómez Arriola (Mexico), whose interventions enriched the technical dialogue and provided complementary perspectives on the conservation and management of heritage.
These presentations highlighted the importance of capacity building as a key element for the effective management of Outstanding Universal Value, underscoring the need to strengthen technical skills in areas such as informed decision-making, impact assessment, conservation technologies, and the integration of international frameworks with local contexts.

This dialogue helped consolidate collaborative ties between RWHIZ and site managers in Guatemala, facilitating the identification of specific needs and the definition of joint work plans aimed at strengthening capacities in the short and medium term, particularly within the framework of the Action Plan for Latin America and the Caribbean (2023-2029).
