Meeting with the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Republic of Guatemala and its World Heritage Delegation

Today, February 11, 2026, a meeting was held between the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Republic of Guatemala, its World Heritage Delegation, and the World Heritage Initiative (RWHIZ) to strengthen technical cooperation for the protection, conservation, and management of World Heritage sites. The meeting also aimed to advance the organization of a Meeting of World Heritage Site Managers in Guatemala, designed to enhance understanding of the Action Plan for Latin America and the Caribbean (2023-2029) and to promote dialogue and the exchange of best practices.

Vice Minister Laura Jazmín Cotí Lux participated in the session. Also present was Ixchel Alvarado, advisor to the World Heritage Delegation, who opened the meeting, introduced the participants, and outlined the work currently being carried out by Guatemalan institutions in the area of World Heritage. Other specialists linked to the World Heritage sites of this State Party also participated, sharing needs and priorities from management and technical work in the territories.

Representing RWHIZ were Architect Carlos Augusto Torres Pérez, Director General of the Category 2 Center; Erika Rentería; and Raúl Rodríguez Márquez. During the meeting, both organizations presented ongoing initiatives and future work plans. As a result, they agreed to establish a cooperation agenda for 2026 and hold additional coordination meetings to refine technical support mechanisms, define joint priorities, and monitor the implementation of the agreements reached.
