RWHIZ participates in the Consultation of Small Island Developing States (SIDS) located in the Caribbean

On September 16, the Regional World Heritage Institute in Zacatecas (RWHIZ) participated in the consultation with Small Island Developing States (SIDS) in the Caribbean, a meeting convened by the UNESCO World Heritage Centre and coordinated by the UNESCO Latin America and Caribbean Unit.

This activity, in which representatives from Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Haiti, Jamaica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Suriname participated, aimed to present the initial results of the desk study and interviews, listen to the experiences, challenges and priorities of each of the SIDS States Parties in the region and assess the regional challenges and priorities, with a view to using this information to inform the development of a World Heritage Strategy for Small Island Developing States (SIDS), which is being developed by the UNESCO World Heritage Centre itself through an inclusive consultative process, in order to strengthen South-South cooperation, promote international collaboration and facilitate the exchange of knowledge, experiences, good practices and the mobilization of resources.
The final strategy document is expected to be considered at the 48th session of the World Heritage Committee in 2026.
