15 years of the Camino Real de Tierra Adentro as a World Heritage Site
Today, August 1, 2025, we celebrate 15 years of the Camino Real de Tierra Adentro (Royal Road of the Inland) as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognized as a Cultural Itinerary.
This great itinerary represents a dynamic process of human interaction, forged over three centuries of transit, exchange, and transformation. Inscribed in 2010, it spans more than 1,400 km and includes 60 sites in 11 Mexican states, reflecting its key role in the development of the north of the country between the 16th and 19th centuries.
Its management represents both a challenge and an opportunity: it requires inter-institutional coordination and a shared vision, but it also offers enormous potential for sustainable development, social cohesion, the strengthening of local identities, and cultural dialogue between Mexico and the United States.
Congratulations on these 15 years of the Camino Real de Tierra Adentro (Royal Road of the Inland) as a World Heritage Site!
